Joan Spivak

Joan Spivak offers more than 25 years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on healthcare companies and issues. Previously, she served as founding president of Prime Medica Inc., the US arm of a UK-based medical communications company after leaving Edelman Worldwide, where she was Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Health practice in New York. During her 15-year tenure with Edelman, Joan worked with a broad range of biopharmaceutical companies and medical research institutions and created many new services and offerings including a newly formed Editorial & Professional Relations Division, where she made Edelman synonymous with excellence in written communications and scientific rigor. Joan founded Bioscience Communications, Edelman’s professional education and publishing division, and also brought together the necessary mix of skills required to service high-growth biopharmaceutical companies in the Science & Technology strategies practice. Joan holds a M.S. in Environmental & Occupational Health from The Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Barnard College. She has a lifelong commitment to helping those in need and has served on the boards of such organizations as LeAp (Learning through an Expanded Arts Program), the National Child Labor Committee, and C.A.S.E.S, a criminal justice agency.
